USA vs Netherlands highlights: Lindsey Horan's killer header

Lindsey Horan, the fierce captain of the U.S. women's national team, showcased her determination in a thrilling match against the Netherlands in Wellington, New Zealand. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but Horan's powerful header goal after colliding with her Lyon teammate, Danielle van de Donk, kept the U.S. team's hopes of winning Group E alive.

Initially trailing due to a goal scored against them in the 17th minute, the American players seemed disheartened and lacked the earlier cohesion they displayed. However, a significant turning point occurred when van de Donk delivered a hard tackle on Horan during the second half.

The collision left Horan on the ground for a few minutes, visibly furious when she got back up. Tempers flared as she exchanged words with her teammate, resulting in some pushing and shoving in the box after the U.S. team was awarded a corner kick. Even the referee's intervention couldn't completely calm Horan, who continued to mutter as Rose Lavelle prepared to take the corner kick.

In the end, Horan had the final say, proving her mettle by scoring the crucial equalizing goal.

Next up for the U.S. women's national team is their final group stage match against Portugal. The game will take place next week, with a 3 a.m. ET kickoff time in the U.S. and 7 p.m. in Auckland, New Zealand.

Despite only earning one point from the draw against the Netherlands, the U.S. team has an advantage in winning Group E due to their superior goal differential. In their opening game, they triumphed over Vietnam with a 3-0 score, while the Dutch narrowly beat Portugal with a 1-0 score.

To secure the top spot in the group, the Netherlands must defeat Vietnam in their upcoming match and score three more goals than the U.S. team does against Portugal. Therefore, the American players can't afford to ease off the gas and must continue their determined efforts.

The match against the Netherlands featured limited goals, and although it briefly seemed like Alex Morgan had scored a game-winner for the U.S., the goal was disallowed due to an offside call.

With the excitement of the Women's World Cup in full swing, make sure to stay updated on the schedule and never miss a game.
